Work and Holiday Visa Holders (417 & 462) can now apply for a third visa and extend their time in Australia to a total of (3) three years.
In late February 2019, the Australian Government updated the Migration Regulations to increase the number of both Working Holiday Visas (417) and Work & Holiday Visas (462) that a person can hold from Two (2) to Three (3) thus allowing for a visa holder to apply for a third year if they meet additional work requirements. These changes will begin to apply on 1 July 2019.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible to apply for a third 417 or 462 visa you will need to meet the following criteria:
- Must hold a second Working Holiday Visa (417) or Work & Holiday Visa (462) that will expire after 1 January 2020;
- Complete at least 6 months of Specified Work , after 1 July 2019, whilst holding a second 417 or 462 visa; and
- Meet each of the general Australian Work and Holiday visa requirements such as age & character.
Specified Work for the purposes of applying for a third 417 or 462 visa is the same type of work that is required to become eligible to apply for the second visa.
Visas expiring before January 2020 – Ineligible
NOTE: As this new amendment will only commence in 1 July 2019, the Department of Home Affairs will only take into consideration 6 months of Specified Work after 1 July 2019. If you currently hold a second 417 or 462 visa that expires before 1 January 2020 you will not be eligible to apply for a third Working Holiday (417) or Work & Holiday (462) visa.
